Meet Dennis Klassen: Our Newest Cabinetry Pro with a Passion for People and Design

September 18, 2024

Gem Cabinets is delighted to welcome Dennis Klassen to our sales team as our newest Account Manager!

With over three decades of experience in the cabinetry industry, Dennis brings a wealth of knowledge, passion and a fresh perspective to our team. His journey from BC to Alberta has been smooth, thanks to his familiarity with the industry and longstanding relationships with key members of our team.

Dennis’s connection with Gem Cabinets dates back 15 years, a relationship built on mutual respect and shared values. When Dennis and his family made the move from BC to Alberta in October 2023, Gem Cabinets was his first and only call.

“I’ve known Bob & Jeff at Gem Cabinets for 15 years. It’s the people and the culture that set Gem Cabinets apart from all other cabinet shops/dealerships. I’ve been with Gem for just over 2 months now and I couldn’t ask for a better place to land in Alberta,” Dennis explains. Within his short time, Dennis already feels at home, seamlessly integrating into our team and bringing his expertise with him.

Dennis’s journey in the cabinetry industry began in 1991 at Montalco Cabinets. Over the years, he honed his skills in various roles, from shop foreman to Sales Manager and eventually ventured into starting his own cabinet dealership in 2008.

His passion for sales lies in the connections he builds with people, helping them achieve their vision.  “I’ve always enjoyed the social aspect of sales – getting to know people, who they are and what their goals are,” says Dennis. His experience ranges from supplying cabinets for single-family homes to large apartment developments and custom renovations, making him a versatile asset to our team.

Now in Alberta, Dennis is eager to immerse himself in the local market, learning about the builders and homeowners who are shaping the Edmonton area. He’s excited to explore the differences between BC and Alberta and how he can best meet the needs of his new clientele.

“It’s interesting to see the difference in trends and finishes from one province to another. Meeting with homeowners is always fun and interesting. Seeing the excitement that they have for their new kitchens or spaces that require cabinets makes me realize my responsibility in getting to know them, their style and the way they plan on using their space. The better I know my clients (whether builders or homeowners), the better I can help them get the products, designs and pricing that suit them and their needs the best,” he shares.

Dennis’s approach is thoughtful and client-focused, ensuring that he tailors every project to meet the specific needs and desires of those he works with. One of the trends Dennis is particularly excited about is the fusion of functionality and style in cabinetry design.

“Minimalist designs with clean lines and handle-less cabinetry continue to gain in popularity, creating a sleek, seamless look. Innovations include integrated LED lighting that enhance both aesthetics and practicality and modular systems that offer customizable storage solutions for a variety of needs. The use of eco-friendly materials reflects a growing commitment to environmental responsibility, which is one of the reasons I recommend Montalco Cabinets to most of my clients and builders.”

Dennis also highlights smart cabinetry solutions, like automated drawer systems and built-in charging stations that are gaining traction, blending modern convenience with cutting-edge design.

Reflecting on his career, Dennis fondly recalls the completion of the 102-unit Skynest Apartment project in BC, a high-end development that featured a range of finishes and stunning views. “Seeing the excitement of the homeowners and hearing their reviews on the project made me feel grateful to be part of the team to bring this project to completion.”

At Gem Cabinets, Dennis believes that it’s not just the variety of cabinet options that sets us apart, but also the people behind the scenes. Our dedicated team of designers, draftspeople, craftsmen and installers work together to bring each project to life, ensuring a seamless experience for our clients.

Dennis plays a key role in this process, staying involved from the initial sale through to the final installation. “As a senior sales consultant, I try to be involved in every step of the process – communicating with all departments here at Gem as the order goes from sale to install. I like to make sure the customer is kept up to date throughout the process,” he explains. His hands-on approach ensures that each client receives the attention and care they deserve and that every project meets the highest standards of quality.

Outside of work, Dennis’s life has taken on a new rhythm since moving to Alberta. While he once spent his free time travelling, hunting, snowboarding and enjoying patio conversations with friends and family, his focus has now shifted to farm life.

Learning how to care for animals, improving out-buildings and preparing for his second winter on the farm have become his new passions. “I couldn’t love it more than I do. I’m fortunate enough to have both my kids and their spouses living on our acreage with my wife and myself,” Dennis shares. His creativity and energy are now channelled into creating a fulfilling life on the farm, where he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking and BBQing together.

We are thrilled to have Dennis Klassen as part of the Gem Cabinets team. His extensive experience, commitment to client satisfaction and enthusiasm for his new role make him a valuable addition.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact that Dennis will continue to have on our clients and projects. Welcome to the Gem Cabinets family!
