Gem Cabinets Ltd. is looking for a Cabinet Maker  to join our team. You will be working in a positive atmosphere and working with a hard-working team to achieve success. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in the fundamentals of kitchen cabinet installation, customer service and thrive in a fast-pace environment. Candidate is required to supply their own tools. This is a fulltime position.

Summary:

The Cabinet Maker is attentive and agile to oversee the creation of cabinetry from start to finish.  The Cabinet Maker will be responsible for selecting the materials, constructing the cabinets, and then applying appropriate finishes.  Responsible for fabricating, modifying, and repairing items needed for the completion of projects as well as setting up and maintaining various tools while adhering to strict quality and safety standards.

The Cabinet Maker will work in a fast-paced but casual environment and play a supporting role in ensuring customer satisfaction by producing quality work in an efficient manner.

Key responsibilities:

  • Operating woodworking machines and using hand tools to cut, shape and form wood
  • Selecting the appropriate materials, fittings, and tools for each task
  • Must plan the most effective approach to ensure that each project completed is on time
  • Creating standard and custom components of cabinets
  • Responsible for inspecting each piece to ensure completion is accurate, necessary finishes are applied and meets quality standards
  • Preparing and interpreting drawings
  • Shop are clean, organized and safe

Knowledge and skills required:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Completion of a training program or apprenticeship
  • Min 3 years experience as a Cabinet Maker
  • Ability to perform math; read technical information, analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions
  • Thorough knowledge of the standard methods, equipment, materials, tools and practices of the cabinet making trade
  • Proficient in planning and managing projects
  • Flexibility is required to work with others and operate equipment using a variety of processes
  • Ability to work with a wide range of individuals
  • Performs consistently under pressure
  • Must be focused and attentive to details
  • Must be able to function with interruptions and deadlines
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Is able to read, interpret and compose work orders
  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift 80lbs

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $23.00 – $28.00 per hour

Cabinet Finisher

Gem Cabinets Ltd. is looking for a Cabinet Finisher  to join our team. You will be working in a positive atmosphere and working with a hard-working team to achieve success. The Finisher is responsible for finishing items needed for the completion of projects as well as setting up and maintaining various tools while adhering to strict quality and safety standards.

The Finisher will work in a fast-paced but casual environment and play a supporting role in ensuring customer satisfaction by producing quality work in an efficient manner.

Key responsibilities:

  • Finish a wide range of items in order to complete projects on time while also ensuring a high level of quality and adhering to all safe job practices and procedures
  • Read, interpret, and verify paperwork for accuracy and request clarification as needed
  • Visually inspect items to ensure quality of finished product will meet expectations
  • Mix ingredients needed for finishing items
  • Apply finishing materials to items
  • Complete paperwork accurately
  • Fill out daily time log
  • Inform Shop Foreman of any projects that are not meeting either quality or time requirements
  • Setup and maintain tools and equipment in accordance with all safety practices and procedures
  • Perform daily maintenance and cleanup of work bench and designated areas
  • Perform weekly scheduled inspections and maintenance checklist on designated equipment
  • Request equipment and supplies required to complete necessary tasks as they are identified
  • Identify and suggest additions to the acquired knowledge in the Shop manual
  • Attend daily toolbox and weekly safety meetings

Knowledge and skills required:

  • Grade 12 or GED
  • Thorough knowledge of the standard methods, equipment, materials, tools and practices of the cabinet finishing trade
  • Capable of mixing ingredients to obtain specified color/shade to specifications or match existing finishes
  • Knowledge of how to apply primer, top coat paint, stain, and any wiped or spray-applied coatings with ability to mix or match
  • Must have good math skills
  • Must be knowledgeable of cabinet manufacturing processes
  • Ability to learn quickly, think logically and understand abstract relationships
  • Proficient in planning and managing projects
  • Is able to read, interpret and compose work orders
  • Flexibility is required to work with others and operate equipment using a variety of processes
  • Ability to work with a wide range of individuals
  • Performs consistently under pressure
  • Must be focused and attentive to details
  • Must be able to function with interruptions and deadlines
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Consistently follows up on items/tasks

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $17.00 – $25.00 per hour
