Small Bathrooms, Big Style

February 15, 2019

In the world of bathroom design the possibilities are endless! Washrooms (and kitchens) are also the rooms that require the most design and finish decisions to be made and often times those decisions can be overwhelming. If you’re working with a space that’s on the smaller side it can be daunting to think of ways to make the most out of the room.  Today we thought we’d share a few small bathroom spaces that manage to show off big style despite their small footprint, as well as a few tips on how to make the most of a small washroom space.

As always our design experts are always available on hand to help you with your own washroom renovation or design but if you’re looking for a few small space tips for the bathroom spaces in your own house here are few from our design experts!

High Contrast

If you want to add a wow factor to a small space go for high contrast! Black and white is always a classic choice.

Ground the Room

If you want to add a bit of drama with a dark finish whether it be a dark floor tile or a rich vanity finish, it’s best to keep those dark colors on or near the floor to ground the space. The exception? If you have any linear elements that run vertically, run those up the wall to draw the eye up!

Let There Be Light!

In a small space (especially a washroom) it’s so important to have ample light. We recommend a small vanity light fixture as well as pot lights to have ample functional light. To create the illusion of a larger space, use a large vanity mirror to reflect the light too!

Take Advantage of Height

In smaller rooms where space is at a premium it can be difficult to find room for storage or even decorative display. If you’re able, take advantage of the wall space and don’t be afraid to run shelving up the walls or add a cabinet above the toilet for additional storage or display. Every little bit of storage helps!
