Tricky Space Solutions: Under the Stairs

May 30, 2019

When designing or decorating your home, there are areas that are pretty straightforward and easy to work with and then there are tricky spaces that present more of a problem. One of the most common ‘tricky spaces’ that we work on often is the ‘under the stairs’ area.

If your home has a staircase with a void space underneath then chances are you’re aware of the dilemma of how to use that space. Unless you’re living a very minimalist life or you’re living the Marie Kondo life yourself, chances are you could use that space for additional storage or to create a more functional useable space.

Depending on whether those stairs are in a basement or on a main level, or if you have kids or pets or not, chances are your functional needs might vary slightly but we’re willing to bet that regardless, that space could be more functional than staying empty.

While at Gem Cabinets we’re most well known for supplying kitchens and bathroom millwork and cabinetry in Edmonton and the surrounding area, we also work on a ton of custom millwork projects and the ‘under the stairs’ zone is one space we work on a lot.

If you have one of these tricky areas we thought we’d share a few inspiring spaces to maybe motivate or inspire you to create a more functional under the stairs space. Take a scroll through some of these images then get in touch to see how we can help!
