Mixing Styles for A Glamorous Kitchen Look

April 21, 2017

Quite often when we’re talking about kitchens we’ll use terms like “modern design”, “contemporary”, “traditional”, “farmhouse”, “transitional” and so on. These are terms we’ll use that help describe the overall feeling of a space. Traditional often implies detailed cabinetry and hardware or finishes with a few more intricacies whereas contemporary usually brings to mind flat panelled cabinetry with sleek lines and smooth finishes. However, not everyone can necessarily relate to a singular design style and in fact, that’s just fine!

We’ll use these terms to simplify the design process but quite often, the most beautiful kitchens ae a combination of finishes and selections that cross several design “styles”. Take for instance this bright kitchen below. One part traditional, one part glamorous and one part modern – these styles combine to create a luxe looking kitchen that’s beautiful in many ways.

Usually when combining design styles it’s best to start with the finish or material that will be used the most. In this case, that would be the cabinetry. White traditional cabinetry sets the tone for a light and airy space. Next up the backsplash adds a bit of glamour. It’s amazing in a kitchen what a difference hardware, fixtures and lighting can make. These statement lights have a modern edge to them that pairs beautifully with the other finishes. Clean lines add an edge while the white color keeps the airy feeling in the room. Simple styling and hardware is best to let the statement pieces in this kitchen design shine through.
